Hi,
I am using FrontPage 2002 and want to know if there is a way to
download my site through FrontPage to my harddrive. I can't see a way?
Thanks
JimJim,
Do you require that this be done through FrontPage, or will another method do?
What Operating System and browser are you using?
Regards,
aceresearcherHi Aceresearcher,
Yes I need to do it through FrontPage because it's the only
access I have to the server. I'd FTP in a heartbeat if I had
the server address, but I don't. It's a long story but it's
my server, run by a guy who's giving me a hard time and won't
give me the server address, and so on.
So, for now, as a work-a-round I was hoping to get a copy of my site
through FrontPage. My OS is Win-XP Home, and my browser
is MSIE6. Hope you can help.
Thanks
JimJim,
I recommend that you try saving the web pages from your site
one-by-one using Internet Explorer.
For each page on your site (in Internet Explorer):
Click on the "File" menu in the upper left-hand corner of Internet
Explorer, Select "Save As", browse to the folder where you want to
save it (You may want to click the "New Folder" icon and create a
folder called "My Website").
This should save all of the files associated with that page, including
.jpgs, .gifs, and .css .
Make sure that the filename is what you want it to be, that Save As
Type is "Web Page, complete (*.htm, *.html), and that Encoding is
"Unicode UTF-8".
Here's a tutorial on the "Save As" command, from .net magazine:
http://www.netmag.co.uk/ie5/save-page.htm
If this does not work for you, please post a Clarification stating
that, and I'll work with you to get the job done.
If you are able to do so, posting your website address would be
helpful (put a space before and after each dot [.] if you wish to
avoid a hyperlink to that address).
Before Rating my Answer, if you have any Questions about or problems
with the above information, please post a Request for Clarification,
and I will see what I can do for you.
Regards,
aceresearcherHi,
Phew...this is a toughie. I really don't like to have a researcher
spend his or her time an not get paid, and yet there was no way that I
could use Internet Explorer to download the pages one-by-one. The site
has 14,000 files and is 825Mb in size, it would have taken forever.
Also, with this method how would I get the images folders, Java files,
Javascript files and so on? I wouldn't.
Here's what I did do. I found that I could download from within
FrontPage 2002 by going to MENU/OPEN which opens the website tree
structure, and then right clicking which opens a dropdown menu, and
then clicking on SendTo. I sucessfully downloaded the whole site this
way, yep it took quite a while but we got the site.
I also found that once I entered the site address in My Network Places
that I could then download from Microsoft Explorer (not MSIE).
So, aceresearcher, please tell me what you think?
Thanks
