Here in the Hemet Valley we live in a place full of legends and haunted dwellings, after all they say this whole valley is haunted, only according to legend of course. The legend of our eerie valley is as follows: In the late 1800 s the Hemet Valley was the home of Romona and Allesandro. When Allesandro was shot and killed Romona cursed the valley saying that no one born here would ever be able to leave. There were only three routes out of the valley back then. A fourth was added in later years. To this day anyone born and raised in the valley that has left by way of one of the three original exits has said to experience an irresistible urge to return and once they do they end up in a financial or personal situation preventing them from leaving again. When I left it just never felt like home. I think I knew I would come back because as much as I thought I wouldn t end up living here no where else was the same. It was too weird to be away from here- It just felt wrong, said one Hemet resident who only left for a year and was then forced to return. But those who have left by way of the fourth route manage to stay gone. In such a place where no one can leave haunted properties, houses, and manors are quite easy to come by. Why less than a mile from our school lies the ghostly residence known as Hilltop Manor.
Hilltop Manor has many spooky stories attached to it. One of the most widely known stories states that this manor was once an asylum for the mentally unstable. Some believe that the souls of those who were once caged in the hospital never left and remain haunting it to this day. Others say that this was not an asylum but the place of gruesome murders. That the original owner of this manor went crazy and murdered his own family; they even say the blood of his victims remains staining the carpet and walls. Whether deranged souls seeking revenge for their captivity or the victims of an atrocious crime haunt this dwelling we do not know, but the ghostly aura is apparent to all as is the feeling to stay away.
Much like Hilltop Manor another home in Hemet is known to attract supernatural occurrences. This house, located on Compiegne Dr. in Valle Vista, is the residence where an elderly woman died from cancer about twenty years ago. Her death was discovered when her husband found her lying face down in their bed, assuming she was sleeping. To wake her up he tried to gently rub her back- finding it cold. Ten years later the current residents of the house allowed their six year old son to sleep in their room for the night because he was restless. Once he fell asleep his parents left the room. The little boy woke up in the middle of the night thinking his mom had woken him up by rubbing his back- only to find no one there. Anytime this little boy slept in his parents bedroom the same thing happened and he quickly learned he was better off in his own room, away from these strange incidences. To this day the man who was once this little boy believes he was haunted by the elderly woman s husband.
Many places of haunting in Hemet involve events to horrid to repeat. If someone were really trying to scare people with one of our towns secrets they might mention the housing tract in Hemet that us built on an Indian Grave yard or the property just outside of San Jacinto where ghosts can be heard running at night. But then again others might find it to harsh for their ears.
