Yes, time to retire and to do something more productive to society, instead of trying to create unnecessary doubts on the minds of some confused women.
Thanks for your thoughts.
However, for me, in my country, the UK, other issues are far more pressing. Issues that affect all people, from child poverty to elder abuse, from environmental damage to disability rights.
Looking at any one of these issues means you have to look at the whole of society not delineate between the sexes. I say these issues are more important to me in the UK to differentiate between my country where there are laws and procedures firmly in place to protect women and countries that are not as far along. In reality all of the above issues affect everybody throughout the world; if I deforest most of my own country I have to find another one to find my timber so I deforest yours.
There are still some injustices to fight for. The legislation is in place in the UK to deal with discrimination against women. The other issues are more pressing in my view.
Btw Retire gracefully? It would the first graceful thing feminism has done in 40 years. Personally I think people who have spread discriminatory laws against men should be held to account in the same way as someone who spread laws against Black people.
People will always have biases, no matter what. It is human nature. You can't change human nature. You've fought for equality. You have it.
Being raped has nothing to do with equality. Men get raped too. That has to do with law. Equality is virtually impossible. Women will have those things they do well, just as men have theirs. 7 times out of 10 a woman would make a better parent than a man.
Women are in slavery in many parts of the world. So are men. That's equal.
Even in those nations where they supposedly have achieved some level of success in this regard, they are still treated as less than equal.
The reality is that men and women are not equals and never will be. There are some things that men can do which women can not and some things which women can do which men can not. There are physical, biological, emotional and psychological differences which will never change regardless of the employment positions, or political offices those who have been discriminated against in the past might reach.
Perhaps it would be wiser for all to realize these differences and celebrate the same as well as properly utilize the same for the mutual benefit of all in a spirit of mutual cooperation practiced in mindful awareness demonstrated by acts of generosity, loving kindness, caring and compassion for all that exist in the realization of our interdependence on all that is.
Be well and please, see that which is for what it is rather than how you might wish the same to be.
There is no wage gap.
I'll say that again:
There is no wage gap.
It's now the men who are treated unequal in a negative way.
To the persons thinking half of anything should be women: men are suited better for some jobs, and nature has intended this.
Not God, nature.
Can't we just all go back to the stone age, when women were there to give birth and men to impregnate and hunt for food?
Pl0x?
and women sure as heck havnt gotten rights around the world.
I'll hang up my feminist hat when that is done.
Also, you just have to scam some of the questions in G&WS to see that sexism isn't completely gone. Yes, I believe some feminists take things too far and in a fair amount of Europe sexism is gone, but there is still a hell of a lot in other parts of the world. There's also a lot in cults and stuff.
And obviously calling yourself a feminist doesn't mean you have to talk about equality 24/7- but if you think someone is being sexist obviously you should inform and stand up for what our sister's fought for years ago.
Also, there are still some women out there who think they are just expected to marry and cook- obviously we need to inform these women they are worth so much more than this.
Feminists will never cease to exist just as people against racism will never cease to exist- there will always be a few people who are sexist or racist or maybe even whole countries or whatever.
-half of the political positions in our country,
-are running half of the companies in the US,
-have half of the judgeships in our country,
-have half of the supreme court positions in our country
-don't have to worry about whether they'll be able to have legal access to birth control or abortion,
-don't have to worry about sexual harassment or being paid fairly (same with men),
-where mothers and fathers are supported to work and take care of their children,
-where boys and girls can learn in a safe environment and aren't punished if they are active vs passive learners,
-when women can apply for combat roles in the military,
-when women also are required to register for selective service,
-where women can be drafted like men,
-when women don't have to worry about being raped if they go for a walk at night
-when lesbians can be treated fairly in the workplace and can have their relationships respected
plus
-when men and women can be treated fairly in divorce and custody decisions, as well as in paternity situations
-when men are not being murdered and assaulted in our country
-when men are not being raped in prison, and are taken seriously when they are raped or beaten
-when men can display so-called "feminine" traits without being called gay or a woman
-when gay men are not killed or attacked for being gay; when they can be treated fairly in the workplace & have their relationships respected
-when men are respected for being peaceful and for women being strong
plus
-when blacks, hispanics, asians, american indians and immigrants aren't called racist names or discriminated against in the workplace or housing or in the courts, and are fairly represented politically and economically
then I can retire from feminism in the US and will focus my efforts on supporting women and men in other countries striving for equality-but it's going to be a long time
To the poster below : "half of them are beaten and raped each day," - is that for real? Don't the phrases "half of them" and "each day" sound like a stretch? What are you saying about the babies that are born there then?
Whoa !
India, Pakistan and the Philippines had women presidential leaders long before Thatcher came to power in the west. The fact that all women sold out their Lands for profit is an example of corruptive malleable fallibility of women.
Indeed america⠙s anti-culturalism wreaks its feminist devastation over the world through the media as a cancer like plague, and few men can testify to that rare breed known as the indulged women ever becoming a ⠘satisfied woman⠙. The happy ones are loved and as empowered as their little heart⠙s desire within their homes and communities, those raised in dysfunctional homes, or unable to gain credibility amongst their peers go on to wage their lack of adequate nurture upon good society, ultimately to its detriment. They are undeniably a minority. They gain leverage by underhand politics stipulating if you can lead astray and ruin a nations women you destroy its infrastructure thereby. If american man cannot gain any authority of his woman or citizens ⠘he⠙s gonna darn well ensure the whole world suffers with him ...!⠙⠙
There aint no stopping the american eunuch and his feminist...or IS there.... ?
Second of all, I think that equality is an asymptote, the kind where the function intersects it; this kind: http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q187/...
We can never reach full equality, only get closer and closer.
Other places like the Middle East need more rights for women though.
It's an ongoing thing.
What is considered 'valuable' work in our society is completely based on the male ideal, certainly not the female ideal.
Women are still treated discracefully in many countries. NO-ONE can deny this! Yet anti-feminists chose to ignore this little 'side issue'. How convenient for them. It's a disgrace! Shame on anyone who doesn't support better treatment of women the world over.
Has feminism accomplished it's goal? No way.
When the natural order in the world is for women to hold in equal numbers to men the top jobs in the political and the business world we will have equality. We are still a very long way from this.
There is still a long way to go in the western world but in many countries throughout the rest of the world inequality for women is non existent.
When the whole world is governed and run by both sexes I will happily retire gracefully, however when some apparently intelligent men believe we have already achieved equality I feel we have an awfully long way yet to go.
Don't hold your breath.
